House in Lubango - Uma Casa no Lubango

There, in Lubango, a luxurious house is set to be born, founded on the roots of Africa, the majestic and primordial motherland, the sacred womb of the world.

This house draws inspiration from traditional Angolan constructions, particularly from the domed hut, which identical to a mother, nurtures and protects against rain, heat, mosquitoes, and wild animals.

The volumes of the first floor plan are masterfully adjusted and rotated, each space carefully crafted to offer a unique and enchanting experience of light and presence, before being merged through their common crossings.

The earth is sought after for the chameleon-like color of adobe, which blends perfectly into the magnificent landscape, revealing a different tale every season.

The concept of the arched roof, a hallmark of traditional African architecture, is reimagined here in a modern context, creating a sense of sumptuousness brought through carefully placed zenith orifices. These openings delicately pour an almost sacred light, imbuing the space with a unique and captivating ethereal wonder.

Large, modern, and splendid openings are carved into the house with intelligence and grace, ensuring a sustainable balance between unobstructed views of the outside world and protection from the sometimes burning African climate. The spaces unveil succeedingly in a palatial way, almost as if the unfolding of infinity is presenting itself before our eyes. The ceiling varies to create situations of greater or lesser intensity, of shelter, welcome, expansion, or discovery.

Outside, nestled in the lush exotic garden, skillfully sprinkled among the vegetation, small huts nestle as pompous and interesting dwellings to welcome visitors. Once again, this revisits the picturesque tradition of genuine Angolan living.

This intertwining between the luxurious mother house, a modern uterine shelter, and the primordial garden of Eden, truly speaks to us in such a pure and simple way of what Africa is.

At the end of the day it is on the stunning terrace that one can best contemplate the golden sunset landscape, while birds sing and jubilate free without dismay, and wild beasts just lie, docilely breathing the air.

Ali no Lubango vai nascer uma casa. Uma casa que é de luxo, mas assente sob raízes africanas. África terra mãe, majestosa, primordial, ventre sagrado do mundo.

Esta casa é inspirada nas construções tradicionais angolanas, naquelas cubatas abobadadas, que tal como o útero materno, nutrem, cuidam, sustentam, e protegem da chuva, do calor, dos mosquitos e da ameaça animal.

O projecto parte da preexistência de um esboço anterior. Os volumes dessa primeira planta são depois ajustados e rodados conforme a experiência de luz e do habitar que se procura para cada um, e no final, fundidos, através do seus atravessamentos comuns.

À terra vai-se buscar a cor do adobe, que tão bem se integra na prolífica paisagem, e que nos conta uma história diferente a cada época diferente do ano.

O conceito da abóbada é recriado para uma vivência mais moderna, uma interpretação formal que consegue conferir grandiosidade ao espaço, e onde através de aberturas zenitais, cuidadosamente colocadas, se derrama delicadamente uma sacra luz.

Grandes, modernos e esplêndidos vãos são rasgados inteligentemente na direcção que menos acaloramento provoca na casa, garantindo-se assim um sustentável equilíbrio entre o desafogamento visual e a protecção do, por vezes, abrasador clima africano. Os espaços sucedem-se palacianamente, quase como se o desenrolar do infinito se apresentasse diante dos nossos olhos. Variando a altura do pé direito invocam-se presenças de maior ou menor intensidade, de abrigo, acolhimento, de expansão, ou de descobrimento.

Lá fora, perdidas no exótico jardim, salpicadas com mestria por entre a vegetação, nascem pequenas cubatas como pomposos e interessantes espaços de acolhimentos de visitas, revisitando novamente a pitoresca tradição do genuíno habitar angolano.

Este conceito contrastante entre a sumptuosidade de uma casa-mãe como abrigo uterino moderno, e o etéreo e primordial oásis jardim, fala-nos na verdade, e de uma forma tão pura e simples daquilo que é essencialmente África.

No final do dia, é naquele deslumbrante terraço que melhor se contempla a dourada paisagem do sol pouseiro, enquanto os pássaros jubilam livres sem medo, e as feras selvagens apenas ali ficam respirando docilmente o ar.
